Gastritis is inflammation of the stomach lining.There are hypo- and hyperacid gastritis (i.e. with high or low acidity).
As is known, the stomach produces hydrochloric acid, the content of which determines the type of ulcer.Diet plays a major role in ulcer treatment.
Basic diet rules
The main goal of the diet for gastritis is to adhere to a diet that ensures normal digestion.
The ulcer treatment table (per day) should contain:
- 90-100 grams.protein (60% animal origin),
- 90-100 grams.fat (75% animal)
- 400-420 grams.carbohydrate.
The total energy value should be 2800-3000 kcal.
Nutrition rules for ulcers
Power mode
First, you have to follow a meal schedule (at the same time).Secondly, with gastritis, food should be in small portions, 4-5 times a day, but at the same time it is necessary to avoid snacks (they provoke “excessive” secretion of gastric juice and reduce its production during breakfast/lunch/dinner, which disrupts the processing and assimilation of food).
Reading while eating, watching TV, and “eating on the run” should be avoided.
Know the size
With stomach ulcers, the saying “after eating there should be a slight feeling of hunger” is more relevant than ever.
Firstly, the feeling of fullness only occurs 10-15 minutes after eating, and secondly, a full stomach cannot carry out its functions properly, especially in case of stomach ulcers.
Chew food
Chewing food for a long time (at least 25-30 seconds for each piece) promotes more thorough mechanical processing of food, thereby easing stomach upset.In addition, hunger in this case is satisfied faster (thus preventing overeating).
Refusal of complex dishes
The menu for stomach ulcers should consist of simple but varied dishes.The large number of ingredients in cooking makes it difficult for the stomach to digest them.
Rest after eating
After every meal, you need to rest for 15-20 minutes (you don't have to sleep).You can read a book or listen to music.
Prohibited foods for stomach ulcers
With increasing acidity

For gastritis with increased production of hydrochloric acid, the diet should be aimed at reducing the formation of gastric juice.Therefore, the principle of the treatment table consists of 3 points:
- mechanical– avoid eating coarse fiber foods (bran bread, turnips, turnips, “old” meat);
- chemistry– prohibition of foods that increase the production of stomach acid (alcohol, coffee, white cabbage, citrus fruits, sour fruits and berries, strong broths);
- thermal– do not eat food that is too cold or vice versa hot (optimal temperature 50 degrees).
Prohibited foods for hyperacid ulcers:
- fresh bread, especially warm, pastries made from butter and puff pastry;
- cereals: pearl barley, beans, millet, barley, corn (coarse fiber);
- rich meat and fish broths, okroshka, borscht, mushroom soups (contain many extractive substances that stimulate the production of gastric juice);
- any type of fatty and stringy meat: duck, chicken, pork, smoked meats (difficult to digest in the stomach and increase the formation of hydrochloric acid);
- fatty and salty fish (provokes the formation of gastric juice);
- fermented milk products (all types of spicy cheeses, limited to sour cream);
- vegetables: rutabagas, turnips, turnips, sorrel, spinach, canned vegetables (coarse fiber), as well as onions and garlic, especially raw (stimulates the gastric glands of the mucous membrane);
- sweets: sour fruits and berries, raw fruits, chocolate, dried fruits (coarse fiber, high acidity);
- spices: mustard, pepper, horseradish (stimulates the production of hydrochloric acid);
- carbonated drinks, kvass, coffee (stimulate the release of hydrochloric acid, increase gas formation, cause heartburn);
- fried and boiled eggs, animal fats (except butter).
Gastritis with low acidity
The goal of a diet for ulcers with low acidity is to stimulate (in moderate amounts) the production of gastric juice.Food should be consumed after the release of hydrochloric acid begins, namely in the first phase (advertising or programs about food, beautiful photos of food, “tasty” conversations can trigger the release of gastric juice).
Prohibited foods for hypoacid ulcers:
- fresh bread, rich pastries (“heavy” food for the stomach, making chemical and mechanical processes difficult);
- restriction of pearl barley, beans, millet;
- fatty meat, meat with fascia (film), canned food, smoked meat (insufficient mechanical processing of food, excessive release of hydrochloric acid);
- fatty and salty fish;
- coarse fiber vegetables and fruits (white cabbage, radish, radish, cucumber, bell pepper), mushrooms;
- berries with seeds or thick skin (raspberries, strawberries, red currants, gooseberries, figs);
- sharp and salty cheeses, milk – neutralize hydrochloric acid;
- pork, beef, lard and tallow (indigestible due to low production of hydrochloric acid, difficult to digest foods);
- spices and herbs (irritate the gastric mucosa), as well as chocolate, grape juice, alcohol;
Official Product
With increasing acidity

Products and dishes that are allowed and recommended for gastritis with increased acid formation should neutralize the high content of hydrochloric acid in the stomach and facilitate digestion in the stomach (mashed foods, liquid porridge, boiled meat, fish and poultry).
Products allowed for hyperacid gastritis:
- “yesterday's” or dry bread, crackers, dry biscuits (biscuits);
- vegetable puree (carrots, potatoes, beets, cauliflower), peeled tomatoes;
- fruits that do not contain coarse fiber (bananas, baked apples, ripe pears, sweet berries, as well as fruit drinks, compotes, jellies, jellies from them);
- sweet products: milk cream, marshmallows, marshmallows, honey (drinking honey water 1.5-2 hours before meals reduces stomach acidity, has a healing and immunostimulating effect);
- butter (natural and ghee), vegetable oils (contain vitamin E, which neutralizes hydrochloric acid);
- lean types of meat and poultry (veal, beef without tendons and fascia, “white” chicken meat);
- milk, cream, low-fat cottage cheese (antacids - anti-heartburn effect, coats the gastric mucosa, neutralizes gastric juice);
- river fish (contains a lot of unsaturated fats, which normalize the functioning of the digestive tract) in the form of cutlets or steamed, boiled;
- seafood;
- parsley and dill, vanillin and cinnamon in small quantities to stimulate appetite;
- boiled egg or steamed omelet (preferably white);
- cabbage, potato, carrot juice (or a mixture thereof) – antacid effect, high vitamin U content – anti-ulcer factor;
- rosehip decoction (a lot of vitamin C, which has a healing effect and stimulates appetite), diluted tea or coffee with milk, chocolate, mineral water (remove toxins).
With low acidity
Products that are recommended for consumption by ulcer sufferers with low acidity should stimulate the production of hydrochloric acid.Eating should coincide with the start of gastric juice discharge.
Products allowed for hypoacid gastritis:
- dry bread, crackers, baked goods;
- porridge with water or diluted milk, cooked, liquid, also meatballs and steamed cutlets, puddings, soufflés;
- veal, beef, skinless chicken;
- low-fat meat and fish broths, you can add cereals, pasta, if well tolerated, borscht, cabbage soup, beet soup with finely chopped vegetables;
- potatoes, zucchini, pumpkin, white cabbage (finely chopped), cauliflower (boiled, steamed or in the form of puree, pudding);
- juice from potatoes, cabbage, carrots immediately before meals (stimulates the release of hydrochloric acid);
- honey water before meals (stimulates acid formation), watermelon, peeled grapes, baked apples, compotes and mousses from very ripe and sweet fruits and berries;
- tea with lemon, weak coffee, chocolate with diluted milk, rosehip decoction;
- vegetable oil, butter;
- fermented milk products, grated and light cheeses in small slices;
- boiled egg or egg white omelet.
The need to follow a diet
There is no drug that can completely cure acute ulcers or cause stable remission in chronic ulcers.
All advertised drugs, available to everyone, are sold without a prescription in pharmacies.But they only eliminate (temporarily) unpleasant symptoms (heartburn, pain, belching).
Following a diet for stomach ulcers not only makes the patient's life easier, but also disciplines the person.
The ulcer treatment table is a complete and healthy diet, normalization of lifestyle, rejection of bad habits and low-quality products.In addition, a diet for ulcers helps to normalize body weight (those who have lost weight will gain weight, and people with excess weight will lose weight), because timely and nutritious nutrition normalizes not only the functioning of the digestive tract, but also all metabolic processes, and, consequently, strengthens the immune system.
Consequences of not following a diet

If you refuse to follow a diet for any type of ulcer, the patient may face the following problems:
- vitamin deficiency;
- diseases of the liver, pancreas, duodenum, large and small intestine (due to impaired gastric function);
- significant weight loss (fear of eating);
- peptic ulcer disease and its consequences: perforation of the ulcer, penetration of the ulcer - germination into the organ, bleeding;
- the formation of atrophic gastritis and its transformation into gastric cancer.
